It’s back! The department is once again holding a student photo contest. We’re looking for photographs showcasing your school spirit and our industries in action. Do you have a photo from an internship, club trip or football game? Those are all potential winners! If you need more inspiration, you can always visit the 2022, 2021or 2018 submissions for inspiration.
1st: $500
2nd: $350
3rd: $150
People's Choice: $100
Any student who is enrolled in a degree program in Penn State’s John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering in Fall 2023.
Photos must be original (taken by the person submitting them to the contest), and they should fall under one of the following categories. The winning photos can come from any category.
Photos must have been taken within the past three (3) years by the person making the submission – this means that selfies are fine, but photos that friends take of you can’t be entered since you are not the one who took the picture.
Photos must be submitted electronically as high-resolution JPEG files with at least 300 dpi.
Submit photos and complete the submission form. You may submit multiple photos to the contest, but you must include full entry information for each one.

All images will be judged by a panel defined by the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering. All entries will be available online for the public to view and vote on electronically for the People's Choice award. The image that receives the most public votes will receive the People's Choice award and prize.
By submitting photos you permit the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering to use your name in conjunction with your submitted photos to promote the department in any and all media. Submissions will become the property of the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering and can be used at their discretion.
