Submit photos and complete the submission form by 5:00 PM on Friday, October 8, 2021. You may submit multiple photos to the contest, but you must include full entry information for each one.
Each photo submission must include the following entry information:
Submission Deadline: Friday, October 8th
Photos are judged on three criteria:
All images will be judged by a panel defined by the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering. All entries will be available online for the public to view and vote on electronically for the People's Choice award. The image that receives the most public votes will receive the People's Choice award and prize.
By submitting photos you permit the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering to use your name in conjunction with your submitted photos to promote the department in any and all media. Submissions will become the property of the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering and can be used at their discretion.
This photo was taken at the Cambria Coal Cleaning Plant owned by Corsa Coal Corp. The hill in the background is a reclaimed reject pit, reclaimed according to the Mine Reclamation Act guidelines. Starting right before the hill, the conveyor belts go to the fine refuse pile, to the coarse clean coal pile, to the reject bin, and to the fine clean coal silos respectively.

This photo was taken in the first winter I arrived at Penn State. I am so attracted by the beauty of the Old Main Building that I took a lot of photos. In this photo, although the milky way is photoshopped, the gorgeous Old Main is relieved against the starry sky.
