Faris Alsaif, a senior who majors in petroleum and natural gas, spent his summer in the Northern Area Gas Reservoir Management Department at Saudi Aramco in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. For Alsaif, the experience helped him connect topics from his classwork to real fieldwork, such as well deliverability, pressure behavior, and production decisions.
Why did you choose your area of study?
I have always been drawn to the intersection of environmental protection and real-world industry, and mining felt like a place where that balance is becoming increasingly important. Reflecting on my past experiences, I remember a fourth-grade field trip to an acid-mine drainage site, and I now realize how intertwined the world of mining has been in my life.
What is your dream job?
My dream job is to be a Reservoir Engineer at Saudi Aramco. EME has helped me improve my skills, which are just as important as technical knowledge in the energy industry.
My Internship
My project focuses on reservoir engineering and gas field management, including analyzing reservoir performance and evaluating opportunities to improve gas production and recovery.
The project can help improve gas production efficiency and support a reliable energy supply. The knowledge gained may also contribute to best practices in reservoir management and energy development.
Methods
I use reservoir data analysis, engineering calculations, and industry software to evaluate well and reservoir performance and support technical recommendations.
Advice
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in college so far?
Consistency, time management, and building relationships have been just as important to my growth as learning technical skills.This internship has helped me learn how to ask better questions and read technical papers with more purpose.
