Calling all EME photographers—give us your best shot!
The department is hosting a Fall 2025 student photo contest, and we’re seeking photographs showcasing your school spirit and our industries in action. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, October 29, during the Student Poster Exhibition.
Please submit your best photos by NOON on Friday, October 17.
Any student who is enrolled in a degree program in Penn State’s John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering in Fall 2024.
Photos must be original (taken by the person submitting them to the contest). The winning photos can come from either category.
Photos must have been taken within the past three (3) years by the person making the submission – this means that selfies are fine, but photos that friends take of you can’t be entered since you are not the one who took the picture.
Photos must be submitted electronically as high-resolution JPEG files with at least 300 dpi.
Submit photos and complete the submission form by 11:59 AM on Friday, October 17, 2025. You may submit multiple photos to the contest, but you must include full entry information for each one.

Photos are judged on three criteria:
All images will be judged by a panel defined by the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering. All entries will be available online for the public to view and vote on electronically for the People's Choice award. The image that receives the most public votes will receive the People's Choice award and prize.
By submitting photos you permit the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering to use your name in conjunction with your submitted photos to promote the department in any and all media. Submissions will become the property of the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering and can be used at their discretion.
