He has been working in various capacities with GMS since November 2016. Tasks include project management, mine coordinator and shift foreman, mine examiner and Chief Mining Engineer. He had retired as the Chief Engineer with Alpha Natural Resources, Pa. Services Corporation. He has 42+ years of experience in the coal mining industry. For the last 5 years prior, he was the Sr. Manager Underground Mine Engineering for Alpha with primary responsibilities for Mine Engineering and Mine Ventilation – Surveys and Modeling. He had 2 assistants and covered approx. 20 company mines and held ventilation training classes for those operations. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering from the Penn State University. He is a registered P.E. in Pennsylvania. He currently holds Mine Foreman certificates in Pennsylvania and Utah. He has been active in mine rescue for 33 years and is currently coach / mentor of the Penn State Student team. He has held various engineering positions from co-op student engineer to engineering manager. He also has held operations positions including: Safety Supervisor, Assistant Mine Foreman cm production and outby to General Mine Foreman. He has performed ventilation troubleshooting at company affiliated mines in Pa., West Virginia, Kentucky, Alabama, Virginia, Utah and Colorado as well as in 7 coal mines in New South Wales Australia. He currently serves as a BOD member of the PCMIA and is Past Chairman of the Pittsburgh Chapter of SME.
