In 2020 we launched a summer student research program in response to the large number of our EME students who lost summer internships or job opportunities in industry due to COVID-19 and associated economic issues. According to feedback from faculty supervisors, industry partners, and the interns themselves, the program was a great success.
This summer the department will again be offering 25 research internships working with EME faculty members on a ten-week project, running from May 17 to July 26, 2021.
Participants will work with EME faculty, and in some cases industry mentors, on research projects. We expect that for most interns the work will be done remotely, and therefore is likely to be modeling or analysis related. All EME undergraduates are invited to apply, but for this summer the program has some specific groups of students that it would like to attract:
- Sophomores planning to enroll in a major in the department. This would include students at Commonwealth campuses
- Juniors currently enrolled in the department who would like to sample research and would consider applying to our graduate program
- Juniors at other universities and colleges who would like to sample research topics in the department and would consider applying to our graduate program
Please review the full program criteria below, and if you are interested in applying for an internship, fill out the application by Friday, March 19.
