Abstract: Continuous Surface Mining is a new disruptive surface mining technology which utilizes mechanical excavation to remove minerals, ore and aggregates from an ore body. In many mining applications Continuous Surface Mining can be a cost effective and safer alternative to drilling and blasting. As you know, with the current restrictive environment regarding drill and blast, coupled with locations where it cannot be done (waterways, adjacent to highways and railroads, urban encroachment, overhead powerlines, buried utilities, gas lines, etc.) alternatives to drill and blast are becoming more desirable and necessary.
