Overview

On January 20th and 21st, 2010 the Penn State Miner Training Program willl host the 14th Professional Development Mine Safety Seminar for Supervisors at the Holiday Inn Conference Center — Lehigh Valley. The seminar, co-sponsored by industry and government stakeholders, is the premier opportunity of the year to enhance the safety management skills of front-line supervisory personnel. Over 250 participants are expected to attend.

The seminar (January 20th) will feature a keynote address by Terry Hart, former NASA Astronaut. Timely presentations will be provided by industry and government safety leaders on such topics as:

  • Contractor Safety and Training Issues
  • Safety vs. Compliance
  • Stress and Safety
  • Competent Person Issues
  • Morality of Safety

On the second day of the program (January 21st) attendees may choose from several concurrent workshops such as:

  • Safe Crane Operation
  • Workplace Inspections
  • MSHA/OSHA/DEP Roundtable
  • Rigging Safety
  • Fall Protection
  • Ground Control

To ensure the relevancy and timeliness of the topics, the seminar and workshop topics were identified by a planning committee with industry and government representatives from:

Both government and industry vendors are on-hand to exhibit their products, materials and services on both days of the seminar.

To enhance the supervisory safety management skills of mine supervisors.
