Underground Mine
Escape & Survive: A Miners' Town Hall Meeting on Emergency Preparedness

The Penn State Miner Training Program would like to thank all of the panelists and participants who joined us on June 18, 2008 for the Escape and Survive Miners’ Town Hall Meeting. Your attendance and participation, combined with HD video clips of miners responding to an emergency, expert instruction and insightful discussion on how to survive and evacuate a mine in case of an emergency, helped make the event an enormous success. If you haven't done so already, please take a moment to fill out the participant evaluation form. Your feedback will help us continue to provide effective and quality training.

Penn State Miner Training Program Video Clips:

A selection of pre-recorded video clips were shown during the Miners' Town Hall Meeting to help illustrate some of the mine safety topics discussed by the expert panel. Each clip shares vital information on mine safety that every mining professional should know before entering a mine. Included are demonstrations of appropriate mine safety preparations and of miners responding to an emergency, and messages from Penn State Miner Training Program professionals. The video clips are all a part of the complete webcast but also can be viewed inidividually by visiting the Miner Training Program video clips section.

Penn State Miner Training Program Materials:

Do You Understand Mine Emergencies? Are You Prepared for a Mine Emergency?

The training program, titled, "Do you understand mine emergencies? Are you prepared for a mine emergency?" was prepared to help miners deal with mine emergencies. The purpose of the training program is to improve a miner’s capability to survive a mine emergency, primarily through mine emergency preparedness (MEP).

This training program consists of six training modules and supplemental materials. Each module has an Instructor’s Guide and a Participant’s Guide and a corresponding PowerPoint presentation that address major mine emergency preparedness issues.

NOTE: The PowerPoint presentations are formatted or prepared in the style of "talking points." For maximum effectiveness, the instructor/trainer needs to study the accompanying Instructor Guide, and become thoroughly familiar with the details of instruction. We also encourage you to revise these slides to fit the circumstances at your mine.
