Biographical Sketch: 

Jeremy Gernand joined the faculty of the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Minerals Engineering in August 2013. Following 8 years of experience as a system safety and reliability engineer for design project teams at NASA, the Department of Defense, and the U.S. Postal Service, Jeremy earned a Ph.D. in Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University developing methods to anticipate the toxicity risks and related occupational hazards of exposure to engineered nanomaterials. He now pursues research into improving safety and reliability risk assessment capabilities through the use of incomplete and surrogate information, and better incorporating risk analysis into the engineering design process.
