Industrial Health and Safety Graduate Returns to Speak with Students

November 2006


On October 11, 2006, the Penn State ASSE student chapter was honored by the presence of former student Richard (Rich) Hettes. Rich is a 2001 graduate of the Industrial Health and Safety program was more than pleased to speak about his professional career since graduation. He currently works for Scranton, PA -based Kane is Able, Inc. as a Safety Manager. Kane is Able, Inc. is a third party logistics provider, has a network of over 5 million square feet of distribution space, and a staff of over 1,000 associates. The most notable warehouse is the warehouse located in Mehoopany, PA where Kane works to fulfill Proctor and Gamble's shipping needs. Kane services approximately 14 states on the east coast and has started businesses in California. 


During his presentation, Rich gave the society an overview of the company, his daily responsibilities that include safety challenges faced in the logistics/warehousing industry, and his future professional goals. Rich is currently working on his Master's Degree in Safety Engineering from Kennedy Western University located in California. To show appreciation to Rich for his journey and his insight to the professional world that all safety professionals will enter upon graduation, the society presented Rich with an engraved Penn State desk set. If you would or some one you know would like to speak to the Penn State Industrial Health and Safety Society on various safety-related topics please contact Dr. Joel Haight at jmh44@psu.edu.
