In addition to the various B.S. degrees offered by the Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering, we also offer numerous Undergraduate Minors and Options. They include the following:
Undergraduate Minors:
Minor in Energy Engineering - Designed to provide students in engineering, science, and energy business and finance (EBF) with additional courses, exposure, and experiences to the principles and applications of energy engineering. Courses available to students include thermal sciences; petroleum and natural gas processing; renewable/sustainable energy; chemistry of fuels; electrochemical, chemical and nuclear energy conversion processes; physical processes in energy engineering; air pollution; and green engineering and environmental compliance. Minor in Global Business Strategies for the Earth, Energy, and Material Industries - A joint offering of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and the Smeal College of Business, this minor introduces students to financial, investment, and management concepts applied to private sector organizations whose operation emphasizes the Earth and its environment, the energy and mineral industries, or the development of new and enhanced materials. Minor in Industrial Health and Safety - Offers a specialized program for students in many other broad-based majors, such as in engineering or sciences, who wish to pursue a career in the areas of occupational safety and health or public health. More...

Energy and Fuels Engineering Option in Chemical Engineering - An option in Chemical Engineering in which you students will be prepared to identify and solve the energy and environmental problems of today and tomorrow. With access to world-class research laboratories, students will be mentored and taught by faculty members who are involved in world-class research and who are known in the world-wide energy science community. Energy Systems Option in Energy Business and Finance - NOTE: This option is only available to students who are enrolled in the Energy Business and Finance program. The Energy Systems Option is designed to give EBF graduates a background in energy engineering, and to facilitate and improve their careers. Geographic Information Systems Option in Energy Business and Finance - NOTE: This option is only available to students who are enrolled in the Energy Business and Finance program. This option in the major in Energy Business and Finance is appropriate for students who want a broad understanding of the earth and environmental sciences in preparation for careers in industry, commerce, and government.
